A picture is worth a thousand words, and a visual social media platform like Instagram rightly proves so!

Everyone wants high-quality engagement on their Instagram account, but it takes a lot of efforts when you are dependent on organic growth only!

You need to post high-quality, well-designed pictures on Instagram to grab the kind of attention that you want from your target audience and to send across a strong message — whether you are an individual or a brand.

Initially, Instagram allowed only square pictures (in 1:1 ratio) for the feed section. But now, Instagram allows you to publish portrait and landscape pictures as well.

Since portrait pictures (1080×1350) occupy more screen-space on feeds when people are surfing Instagram on their phones, they become more eye-catching. Hence they are bound to get more engagement than square posts.

However, most people don’t seem to be using the potential of portrait posts so far, reason: The text or the main content of their pictures gets automatically cropped out on their grid when they are posted as a portrait picture, making their Instagram grid appear not-so-neat.

Here are my tips on how you can avoid that from happening:

  1. Click your pictures in 4:5 ratio, if you are clicking pictures of a product, take care of the product placement and ensure that it is in the centre of your frame.
  2. If you share text based pictures on Instagram that you create with an app like Canva, you can easily design a perfect portrait picture that would not get cropped out by adding the text within the margins. As simple as that!

So, are you going to try out portrait posts on your Instagram profile from now on? Let me know in the comments below!
