If Rebranding needs a definition, Don jazzy has it spelt out to the ‘G’, an OG’s OG that went ahead to be so relatable to the Gen Zs.
He came to the music scene Mute but making sure his but his work speaking for him, DBanj’s Tongolo was a monster hit that would turn out to be one of the leading single in The Album ‘No long Thing’ which as Singles like Socor, Mobolowowon, All the Way. Next was RunDown Funk U Up and The Entertainer, All songs on these projects was Produced by Don jazzy, still not talking to the media as Dbanj was always his mouthpiece, and his Identity walking Stick, which he said was not pre planned but given to him by a video director during the shoot for ‘Tongolo’ everyone wanted to hear how he sounds when it’s not on a beat as all is his deep, cracked, but surprisingly melodious ‘cry cry’ voice, and it is always Soothing. Don Jazzy and Dbanj impacted Nigerian music in wild ways.

When the label Mohit began to add more artiste to its Camp, it was his responsibility to make sure they had the right beat to lace their vocals and Donjazzy was always in his Bag, From Wande Coal’s Singing to D’ prince Rapping everyone was eating good and the nation had a buffet they couldn’t get enough of. But there he was at the backseat but the direction was never lost on him as he was there to put the boys on the right track . He had a sound that was different. His tag ‘its Donjazzy again’ was more than enough to send one into frenzy as it’s sure going to be sonically pleasing.
Wande Coal’s Mushin to MoHits is still a template to which new act make their Music, that album was like a Bible back then, it was a redefining moment for Nigeria music till date no one could fault it, it birthed a new wave of sound that is still been heard in acts like Oxlade, fireboy, Joeboy and the new cat on the block and you know what Don jazzy Produced every song on the album . An MTV panel named Jazzy the leader of Nigeria’s new school sound and it shows in all we heard post Mushin to MoHits even till date.
Actions sure speaks louder than words as Ikechukwu had unarguably the best period of his music Career with Songs Donjazzy Produced , ‘Now it is Time’ and ‘Wind am well’ gave Ikechukwu more presence in the music scene more than his album ‘Son of the Soil’ a co sign from Don Baba J prove to move his career to a higher ground that his record label could, if that’s not greatness i don’t know what else is, he has always being the one with the Midas touch. He really need not say much as his work always spoke for him.
March 2012 saw an end to the MoHits Era as D’banj who was a co founder left, Don Jazzy on May 8, 2012a announced a new Label ‘Mavin Records’ With the release of a project ‘Solar plexus’ The label’s inception came to fruition following the closure of Mo’ Hits Records, The label is home to recording artists such as Korede Bello, Dr SID, D’Prince, Di’Ja, Johnny Drille, Ladipoe, DNA Twins, Rema, Ayra Starr and Crayon.
Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Reekado Banks and Iyanya were all formerly signed to the Mavin label. And while with the Label had tremendous success in their music Career and same can not be said concerning these artists since they left the touch of the Musical Genius that is Donjazzy. During interviews and even On social media Don jazzy get ask a lot if he will ever work with Wande Coal and Dbanj again, the reason for this is not hard at all as these Three had a Magical moment in the Music industry, it was a period of simultaneous Hits that had the Nigeria music scene in chokehold.
The Mavin artistes are so diverse it, everyone is in his/her own lane and it’s still a house filled with exceptional talent, safe to Say that The Don never lost the sauce, he definitely still has it in him as Ayra Star and Johnny Drille’s Project has been doing really well with Ayra having a viral moment on social media with the lead single to her Album ‘Bloody Samaritan’ , though not making beats like he used to as he now has an army of producer from Altims, Baby Fresh, London, Louda and Andre Vibes but his comeback to music production saw him topping the chart with Rema’s Bounce . Even Johnny Drille makes beats and he was also responsible for the mixing and Mastering of Ayra Starr’s album 19.
Don jazzy has always been Blessed with being surrounded by Talent and he put in all the effort to make sure they are recognized but this time not only in the background as he put it on himself to put the image of these artists out there not only as a Record label Boss but also their Social Media influencer, his online promotion of these artists is second to none, Don Jazzy is well-followed and liked on Nigerian social mediasphere, and in turn, he uses his platform to showcase his Mavin Talent, the Mavin Boss also showcase other young and emerging content creators on his platform and a co sign from him as always been more than a boost for these Talent.
In stark contrast to the enigmatic personality of his earlier days as a label owner and the most dominant music producer in Nigerian music, Don Jazzy is now this jolly character on social media with immense impact. This Generation sees more of him and heard a lot from him, I mean Don jazzy does skits with Instagram Comedian, shows up on interviews speaking his heart out, Make him the face of your products and watch him promote it with everything in him, who could have thought the man that doesn’t say much to the media turn out to be a voice brands will give anything to have
In their corner.
A generation will know him as MAVIN’s boss who is the biggest influencer in the country, and another generation saw him as Nigeria’s greatest producer of the modern era. There was Mo’hits and now there is MAVIN. That is Nigeria’s greatest producer of the modern era
